Puppy Potty Training in Melbourne, FL
Puddle by the back door again? Housebreaking is not a stubborn puppy problem, it is a teaching problem. We build a clean potty routine that sticks in your real home and yard, Florida rain included.
You do not need to book anything to talk to us. Text us your puppy’s age and what is happening, and we will tell you whether it sounds like a schedule problem or something else.
In home & mobile
Free in home evaluation, no obligation
Roughly how often an 8 week old puppy needs out while awake. Add about 15 minutes of hold time per week of age.
We build the routine in your actual kitchen, yard, or lanai, not in a classroom that looks nothing like your week.
A covered spot, a potty cue, and storm window timing so a Brevard downpour does not undo the week.
You let him out ten minutes ago
Potty training is not luck, it is structure
Puddle by the back door. Again. You let him out ten minutes ago, watched him sniff around, brought him in, and now there is a spot on the rug. Here is the part nobody tells you: your puppy is not stubborn or spiteful. Puppies do not arrive knowing where to go, so guiding them is our job. Structure, supervision, and consistency get you there.
Below is the exact 4 step system we teach, the same one in our client Puppy Starter Guide. The catch most owners hit is running it consistently in a real home with a real schedule, and that is where we come in. We build it with you, in your own home and yard.

How it works
Our 4 step potty training system
Housebreaking is not a mystery. It is four steps, run consistently, until your puppy’s body clock and your routine line up. Skip the system and you get months of random accidents. Run it right and most puppies catch on fast.
Start a Potty Log
The step almost everyone skips. For a few days you log every potty event: time of day, success or accident, pee or poop, inside or outside. That log surfaces the real patterns (accidents right when the kids get home, every Sunday afternoon during the game) and those patterns become a schedule built for your puppy. No guessing, just data.
Build a schedule by age
An 8 week old puppy goes out about every 30 minutes while awake, and you add roughly 15 minutes of hold time each week as his body matures. Always go out right after waking (even a short nap), after eating or drinking, and after play. If he ate, drank, or just woke up and has not gone yet, he owes you one.
Supervise like a hawk
Most potty problems come from unseen accidents, which are not teachable moments, just quiet habit building on your rug. Keep your puppy in sight: baby gates or a leash tether to keep him near you, and the crate when you genuinely cannot watch. You will not hover forever. Every accident he does not get to have is progress.
Teach what is right
When he goes outside, mark it: calm, quiet praise while he is going (“good potty”), then “Yes! Good job!” with a pet or a treat once he finishes. If you catch him starting inside, a quick “No” (dialed to how sensitive he is) interrupts, then straight outside to finish and praise. No scolding after the fact. If it already happened he cannot connect it, and correcting late only teaches fear.
Knowing the four steps and running them through a real week with work, kids, and Florida weather are different problems. Tell us your puppy’s age and what your day looks like, and we will tell you which step is actually breaking down.
Rule of thumb
How long can he actually hold it?
A starting point while you gather your first few days of log data. Your puppy’s real windows come from the log, not the chart.
Naps, meals, water, and play reset the clock no matter what the chart says. Not sure where your puppy lands? Text us his age and we will sketch the schedule.

Part of the puppy foundation
Potty training is one piece of a clean start
Housebreaking folds right in with crate training, chewing, and early manners. See the full Puppy Training and Build program hub for the first eight weeks picture. Once he’s housebroken, a polite walk is the natural next step. See our loose-leash walking training. Or head back to the Trajectory Dog Training home.
Start your puppy off clean
Every accident on the floor is a rep in the wrong direction, and every clean trip outside is a rep in the right one. The families whose puppies get reliable fast are not luckier, they started with a real system on day one. We will get you set up so the good habit forms before the bad one does.
